Barite with Galena
specimen number:
8811355
location:
Sidi Amor Ben Salem, Tajerouine, Kef, Tunisia
description:
A very unusual and rare locality example for the species. This locality was last worked in the 1950s. Good examples of cerussite, anglesite, and phosgenite were known from here, these mainly collected during the 1920s. I visited this remote area with Don Edwards in the late 1990s. The workings are there, but there is little or any collecting to be done. This shows a ball of crystallized white barite set on a matrix of galena. In great condition. The specimen comes with several previous labels, two of these antique. One of the labels dates this to 1924.
