Barite with Quartz
specimen number:
8811082
location:
Washington Co., Missouri, USA
description:
Attractive combination piece with colorless bladed lustrous translucent crystals of barite to almost 1.0 cm in size across the top of a reddish crystallized quartz. In good condition all around. The previous label from the collection of Martin Zinn gives the locality as Excelsior Springs, Arkansas. I am most sure this piece comes from Washington County, Missouri and is really quite good for the locality. I am guessing that the piece originally was acquired perhaps from a rock shop in Arkansas and the location of the shop stuck as the locality for the specimen.
