Brazilianite

specimen number:
2072158

location:
Linopolis, Minas Gerais, Brazil

description:
Quite choice for the species, yellow green crystals of brazilianite measuring to almost 2.0 cm in size forming a cluster without matrix. This is naturally crystallized all around and in very good condition.

Linopolis is a world-famous mineral locality situated in the Divino das Laranjeiras municipality of Minas Gerais, Brazil, renowned for its extraordinary gemstone and phosphate mineral specimens. Geologically, the area is part of the Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province, characterized by highly evolved granitic pegmatites that intruded into Precambrian metamorphic schists. These pegmatites are often complex and zoned, containing specialized pockets where rare minerals crystallized from residual, volatile-rich magmatic fluids. Historically, mining in the Linopolis district has been conducted primarily through artisanal and small-scale operations known as garimpos, which gained significant momentum in the mid-20th century and continue to be active today.
