The Milpillas Mine in Sonora, Mexico, is a modern copper mine that began production in 2006 and quickly became famous among mineral collectors for exceptional secondary copper minerals from the oxidized zone of the deposit. The mine produced outstanding specimens of azurite, malachite, cuprite, and other copper minerals. Brochantite also occurs at Milpillas as dark green prismatic crystals and crystal groups formed by the alteration of copper sulfide minerals. These brochantite specimens are valued for their deep color, sharp crystal form, and association with other secondary copper minerals from the locality.
