The Kamoya South II Mine in Haut-Katanga, DR Congo, commenced open-pit operations in 1998 and remains active today. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Central African Copperbelt and is hosted in the Neoproterozoic Katanga Supergroup, featuring heavily faulted and folded sedimentary rock structures that produce high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. The locality is internationally famous among mineral collectors for producing world-class specimens of carrollite, which is a metallic, thiospinel mineral composed of copper, cobalt, and nickel sulfides that forms brilliant, mirror-bright octahedral crystals often perched on white calcite matrices.
