This important iron mine just south of Sullivan Missouri closed in the early 1990s. During the 1970s, especially the early 1970s material such as the specimen shown were prevalent from the mine. The specimen consists of a 29.0 x 24.0 x 8.0 cm matrix, the top covered with reddish-brown scalenohedral crystals of calcite to 2.0 cm in size. The color on these due to hematite. Beautiful iridescent crystals of chalcopyrite measuring to almost 1.0 cm in size are scattered throughout. Some damage present, still an impressive and attractive large cabinet piece for this locality. Shipping weight: 12.81 pounds.
