description: The Quincy Mine in Houghton County, Michigan, was one of the most important copper mines in the Keweenaw Peninsula and operated from 1846 until 1945. The mine was developed to extract native copper from fissure veins that cut through the basalt flows of the Portage Lake Lava Series. Operated by the Quincy Mining Company, it became one of the most successful mines in the region and was often called "Old Reliable" because it paid regular dividends for many years. Today the Quincy Mine site is preserved as part of the Keweenaw National Historical Park and serves as an important reminder of the regions copper mining history.
A very sharp well-formed crystal of copper 1.5 cm across on matrix. In super condition. This was collected by Ray in the early 1950's.
