The Navidad Mine, located near Rodeo in Durango, Mexico, is primarily recognized as a fluorite deposit that became famous among mineral collectors in recent decades for its exceptional secondary mineral assemblages. Geologically, the deposit features complex veins cutting through regional host rocks, where hydrothermal activity and subsequent oxidation processes created ideal chemical conditions for uncommon secondary minerals to form. The mine is world-renowned for producing some of the finest specimens of creedite, a hydrous calcium aluminum sulfate fluoride mineral. These specimens are distinguished by vibrant, translucent to transparent crystal clusters colored by iron oxide inclusions, frequently resting upon colorful, banded fluorite matrix.
