Eugui, located in the Esteribar valley of Navarre, Spain, is a historic mining and quarrying district best known for industrial extraction and world-class mineral specimens. Geologically, the area features hydrothermal and sedimentary carbonate deposits within Paleozoic and Mesozoic rock formations, where extensive metasomatic processes led to the formation of rich magnesite and dolomite bodies. Mineralogically, the local quarries, particularly the Azcarate Quarry, have achieved international renown for producing some of the finest dolomite specimens in the world, characterized by large, highly translucent, saddle-shaped rhombohedral crystals, complex twinning, and striking associations with golden-brown magnesite. Historically, commercial quarrying operations developed to supply refractory materials and magnesium, while simultaneously exposing cavity-filled pockets that yielded exceptional mineralogical treasures prized by global collectors and museums.
