A superb grouping of glassy gemmy amber colored cubic crystals of fluorite measuring to 2.0 cm on edge little matrix. These are accented nicely with a later generation of gemmy purple crystals of fluorite. This is in super condition. Beautiful when backlit as shown in the picture and at the end of the video. From the mid 1970s.

The Ozark Mahoning No. 7 Mine, located in Hardin County, Illinois, was part of the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District, a region historically known for its significant production of fluorite from vein deposits hosted in limestone. Developed during the mid 20th century by the Ozark Mahoning Company, the mine utilized underground methods to follow mineralized veins rich in fluorite along with associated minerals such as calcite, galena, and sphalerite. Fluorite from the mine was an important industrial material used in steelmaking and chemical processes. The deposit formed through hydrothermal activity that introduced fluorine rich fluids into fractures within the host rock, creating well defined ore zones. Like other mines in the district, operations at Ozark Mahoning No. 7 eventually declined as market conditions changed, but the locality remains of interest for its role in the districts mining history and for the mineral specimens it produced.
