The Huanggang Mines, located in the Hexigten Banner of Inner Mongolia, China, are situated within a massive skarn-type deposit formed by the intrusion of Yanshanian granites into Permian limestone and slate. Geologically, this environment resulted in one of the largest iron-tin deposits in the region, characterized by a complex mineralogy involving magnetite, cassiterite, and various silicates. The locality is world-famous among collectors for its exceptional pink fluorite, which typically occurs as sharp, translucent to transparent octahedral crystals, often perched on a contrasting matrix of dark hedenbergite or arsenopyrite. Historically, mining and quarrying operations at the Huanggangliang complex were developed for industrial metal production, with significant large-scale extraction beginning in the early 2000s and continuing through 2026. The site consists of several distinct mining segments, known as "snouts," which have collectively produced some of the most significant and aesthetically prized pink octahedral fluorite specimens ever discovered in the global mineral market.
