A superb miniature for the species from this locality, these do not come up available very often. Gemmy lustrous cubic crystals of fluorite measuring to 1.8 cm in size set nicely up on matrix. This is in really good condition.

The Holloway Quarry, located in Newport, Monroe County, Michigan, is a significant industrial site primarily known for its production of high-quality aggregate and its interesting mineralogical occurrences. Geologically, the quarry exposes the Middle Devonian-aged Dundee Limestone and the overlying Rogers City Limestone, which were deposited in a shallow marine environment within the Michigan Basin. These limestone units are often dolomitized and contain numerous vugs and fractures where secondary minerals such as celestine, strontianite, fluorite, and calcite have crystallized from hydrothermal fluids. Historically, the quarry has been a major source of crushed stone for construction and road building in southeast Michigan for several decades, with large-scale operations accelerating in the mid-20th century. While it remains an active industrial site operated by companies like Michigan Limestone and Chemical Company and later various aggregate corporations, it has also gained a reputation among mineral collectors for producing some of the finest celestine specimens in the region. The quarry continues to be an important economic contributor to the Newport area while providing a window into the sedimentary and geochemical history of the Michigan Basin.
