Partly gemmy lustrous bluish purple crystals of fluorite measuring to 6.5 cm on edge set nicely on a crystallized quartz matrix with colorless gemmy scalenohedral crystals of calcite. This piece is in great condition.

The La Viesca Mine, situated in Huergo within the famous La Collada mining area of Siero, Asturias, Spain, has a rich history tied to intensive spar and fluorite extraction that developed significantly during the 19th and 20th centuries. Geologically, the deposit is part of the Asturian Mesozoic basin, where mineralization occurs primarily as veins and stratabound bodies hosted within Carboniferous limestones and Permo-Triassic red-bed sediments or calcareous breccias. These hydrothermal deposits formed through the circulation of fluorine-rich fluids controlled by regional tectonic fractures. Mineralogically, La Viesca is world-renowned among collectors for producing some of the finest fluorite specimens ever discovered, celebrated particularly for their striking deep blue, violet, or zonal coloration, exceptional transparency, and frequent association with quartz crystals.
