Geologically, the area is situated within the North Pennine Orefield, where cyclic Carboniferous limestone and shale strata are cut by mineralized hydrothermal veins and flat-lying replacement deposits. Mineralogically, Weardale is world-famous for its exceptional fluorite specimens, celebrated for their sharp cubic crystals, vibrant emerald-green and purple colors, and a unique natural daylight fluorescence driven by trace rare earth elements.
Lustrous cubic crystals of fluorite on matrix with siderite. Some minor cleaving but still quite nice.
