The Yaogangxian Mine, located in the Yizhang County of Hunan Province, China, is a world-renowned tungsten-tin deposit situated within the Nanling Range. Geologically, it is a complex hydrothermal vein system associated with a Jurassic-aged granite intrusion that penetrated through Devonian and Carboniferous sedimentary rocks. The mineralization occurs in massive quartz veins and skarn zones, producing an incredible variety of minerals including wolframite, cassiterite, and stannite. The mine is most famous among collectors for its exceptional fluorite specimens, which often occur as transparent, sharp cubes in shades of pale blue, purple, or green, sometimes featuring distinct color zoning and complex phantom inclusions. Historically, mining activity in the region dates back several centuries, but modern industrial-scale operations began in the early 1900s. The mine has been a consistent producer of tungsten for over a hundred years and remains active today, continuing to provide some of the highest quality mineral specimens to the international market.
