Charcas in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, is part of a historic mining district with activity dating back to the colonial period, when Spanish miners began extracting silver and other metals from rich ore deposits. The geology of the area is characterized by hydrothermal vein and replacement deposits hosted in limestone and related sedimentary rocks, where mineralizing fluids introduced silver, lead, zinc, and associated minerals.
