The Roata mine, located within the historic mining district of Cavnic in Maramures County, Romania, has a rich extraction history dating back centuries, with organized mining documented as early as the Middle Ages. Geologically, the deposit is situated in the Gutai Mountains within the Neogene volcanic arc of the Eastern Carpathians, characterized by complex hydrothermal vein systems. The ore bodies formed through intense volcanic and magmatic activity, yielding massive polymetallic reserves rich in lead, zinc, copper, gold, and silver, alongside exceptional accessory mineral specimens such as distinctive blue barite, quartz, and sulfides.
