Heterogenite
specimen number:
2312618
location:
Mindingi Mine, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
description: The Mindingi Mine, located near Kambove in the Haut-Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is part of the rich Central African Copperbelt. Mining activities in this region expanded significantly under Belgian colonial administration through industrial operators like Union Miniere du Haut-Katanga, alongside subsequent small-scale and artisanal workings. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within Neoproterozoic sedimentary sequences of the Katanga Supergroup, where intense tectonic activity, faulting, and supergene weathering altered primary copper and cobalt sulfides. Mineralogically, the site is known for producing secondary copper and cobalt minerals, including fine specimens of malachite, heterogenite, and associated oxide phases that draw interest from both industrial extractors and mineral collectors.
Nice example for the species, black botryoidal heterogenite on matrix. In good condition. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video.
