The Shijiangshan Mine, located in the Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng County) of Inner Mongolia, China, is renowned for its complex polymetallic skarn deposits formed via intense contact metamorphism and hydrothermal activity. These geological settings feature intricate silicate- and borate-rich pockets that host a wide array of rare secondary minerals. Among these discoveries is the mineral imayoshiite, a very rare hydrated calcium aluminum carbonate-borate species belonging to the ettringite group. At Shijiangshan, imayoshiite forms as colorless, glassy euhedral crystals within low-temperature hydrothermal vugs during the late skarn stage, providing exceptional high-symmetry sulfate-rich specimens that have expanded the known mineralogical data for this rare group.
