Sils, located in the La Selva comarca of Girona, Catalonia, Spain, is an area characterized by a predominantly flat terrain formed largely within the basin of the former Lake Sils, a historic wetland that was progressively drained starting in the nineteenth century. Geologically, the region sits upon complex crystalline and granitic basement rocks influenced by regional tectonic activity and hydrothermal circulation. Mineralogically, Sils gained notable attention within the collector community due to significant mineral discoveries uncovered during major excavation projects, such as the local Mas Server quarry and regional high-speed rail (AVE) tunnel construction works. These operations exposed hydrothermal pockets and veins that produced striking specimens of amethyst quartz, frequently associated with microcline feldspar and smoky quartz.
