The locality of Bulochi in the Drot Valley of the Astore District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, has recently gained attention among mineral collectors for producing rare specimen material. Geologically, unlike typical rhodochrosite deposits that form in hydrothermal or metamorphic base metal ore bodies, the rhodochrosite from this remote high-mountain area occurs within complex granitic pegmatites more commonly known for producing aquamarine and tourmaline. Recent pockets discovered in the area have yielded distinct, translucent, tabular, and wedge-shaped rhombohedral crystals of deep pink to strawberry-red rhodochrosite, frequently associated with feldspar and quartz.
