Octahedral crystals of metallic siegenite measuring to 0.3 cm in size throughout matrix. In good condition, nice for this somewhat uncommon species. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and dates back to the early 20th century, if not the late 19th century.

Mining in Musen near Siegen in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany was part of the historic Siegerland mining district, one of the most important iron producing regions in Germany. Mining activity dates back to medieval times and focused mainly on siderite iron ore found in hydrothermal veins within Devonian rocks. Numerous underground mines operated in the area and supplied iron ore for local smelting and metal production.

Siegenite is a cobalt nickel sulfide mineral belonging to the linnaeite mineral group. It was first described from the Siegerland mining district near Siegen in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, from which the mineral takes its name. Siegenite typically forms metallic gray cubic crystals or granular masses and occurs in hydrothermal vein deposits with other sulfide minerals.
