description: The Buick Mine in Iron County, Missouri, is one of the major lead producing operations in the Viburnum Trend, a region discovered in the 1950s and developed for large scale mining in the 1960s. The deposit consists of Mississippi Valley type mineralization hosted in Cambrian dolomite, with galena as the primary ore mineral along with sphalerite and other sulfides. Operated by the Doe Run Company, the Buick Mine has been an important contributor to lead production in the United States and remains part of the modern mining industry in southeastern Missouri. Siegenite is a cobalt nickel sulfide mineral that belongs to the spinel group. It typically forms in hydrothermal ore deposits, especially in environments rich in cobalt and nickel.
Bright metallic silver sharp crystals of siegenite to 0.4 cm in size across the front of matrix. Minor marcasite is present. In good condition. Quite choice for this rare species.
