The New Nevada Mine, originally known simply as the Nevada Mine, is located in the historic Batopilas mining district of southwestern Chihuahua, Mexico, within the rugged canyons of the Sierra Madre Occidental. Historically, the mine dates back to the initial discovery of silver in the district around 1632, when Spanish explorers found glistening white silver ore near the banks of the Rio Batopilas, naming the site Nevada because of the snow-like appearance of the material. Geologically, the district is situated within a complex Mesozoic and Tertiary volcanic and intrusive terrane, featuring unique low-sulfidation epithermal veins where primary native silver occurs in abundant calcite gangue, often forming rich bonanza pods associated with local structural flexures and fault intersections rather than standard quartz-dominated systems.
