Lustrous sharp black crystals of twinned sphalerite to 1.5 cm in size with quartz and siderite. Slight damage present to the quartz crystals, still very nice.

The Trepca mining complex, located near Mitrovica, Kosovo, is situated within a significant metallogenic zone formed by Tertiary volcanic and intrusive activity. The geology is characterized by contact metasomatic deposits and hydrothermal mineralization where fluids rich in lead, zinc, and silver interacted with limestone and volcanic rocks. This interaction resulted in massive sulfide ore bodies, including galena, sphalerite, and pyrite, alongside a wide array of secondary minerals. Mining history in this region dates back to antiquity, with evidence of Roman and medieval operations. However, the modern industrial significance of the complex began in the early twentieth century when systematic exploration and large-scale mining operations were established. Since then, the site has remained a globally recognized locality for mineral specimens due to the high quality and diversity of its crystals, which were recovered as byproducts of the industrial extraction process.
