The Wuning Mine, located in the Wuning County of Jiangxi Province, China, is a prolific producer of world-class stibnite specimens known for their remarkable size and luster. Geologically, the deposit is a hydrothermal vein system hosted within Precambrian metasedimentary rocks and Paleozoic sedimentary sequences. The stibnite (antimony sulfide) formed as mineral-rich fluids filled structural fractures and cavities, creating elongated, metallic, blade-like crystals that often occur in radiating groups or as dramatic, vertical sprays. These crystals are distinguished by their bright, silvery-metallic luster and sharp terminations, sometimes reaching lengths of several decimeters. Historically, the Wuning Mine began large-scale commercial operations in the late 20th century as part of China's expansion into the global antimony market. While the mine is primarily an industrial producer of antimony ore, it became highly significant to the mineralogical community in the early 2000s when extraordinary pockets of well-crystallized specimens were encountered.
