description: The Davis Deardorff Mine in Hardin County, Illinois was part of the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District near Cave in Rock. Mining in the area developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to extract fluorite from vein and replacement deposits in limestone. The mine produced fluorite along with associated minerals such as calcite, galena, and sphalerite. Operations contributed to the districts importance as a major supplier of fluorspar used in steel and chemical industries.
A superb example for this old locality. Rosy purple translucent crystals of fluorite semi lustrous and measuring to 2.0 cm on edge are set aesthetically up on a crystallized quartz matrix. This is in super condition.
