Pyromorphite
specimen number:
5003838
location:
Bad Ems, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
description:
A classic old time German specimen with lustrous crystals of pyromorphite measuring to 0.7 cm in size across this matrix. Very minimal micro-chipping present, overall I think in very good condition. The specimen comes with an antique label from noted German mineralogist Carl Hintze. The fact that the address given on the label is Strassburg, I believe that the specimen would date to the early 1870s or before, when Hintze work at the University there under Paul Heinrich von Groth.
