The Wuning Mine, located in the Wuning County of Jiangxi Province, China, is a significant antimony deposit situated within the Yangtze Craton. Geologically, the mineralization is hosted in fault-controlled quartz veins that cut through Neoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks, where low-temperature hydrothermal fluids precipitated high-purity antimony sulfide. The site is world-renowned for its world-class stibnite specimens, which occur as brilliant, metallic-gray crystals that can form massive, elongated blades or spectacular radiating sprays of exceptional size and luster. Historically, mining and quarrying for antimony at Wuning began in the early 20th century, with production significantly scaling up during the 1980s and 1990s as China became the dominant global supplier of the metal. While the mine's primary industrial purpose is the extraction of antimony ore for flame retardants and alloys, it has consistently produced some of the finest aesthetic stibnite groups ever seen in the mineral market. As of 2026, the Wuning Mine remains an active industrial operation and a premier locality for collectors, celebrated for the sharp crystal forms and mirror-like surfaces of its stibnite.
